In animation, a key frame can be defined as an illustration or drawing, which outlines the beginning and ending points of a transition. They are described as ‘frames’ because their position on the timeline can be measured and manipulated on a strip of film. A collection of key frames defines the sequence of movements a spectator will get to see and the position of that particular key frame defines how the movement has been timed. Because the insertion of a couple of key frames during a second can’t create the illusion of time, space and movement, more frames are added to give more depth to the sequence.
